ANNUAL REPORT 2003-2004
Our Samithi founded with the inspiration of Swamis of the Ramakrishna Order continued its multifarious activities during the present year. We present hereunder the various activities undertaken on several fronts in the following order: 1.Spiritual activities; 2. Youth Activities; 3. Publication of Books; 4. Children's activities; 5. Other service activities;
SPIRITUAL ACTIVITIES Daily Prayer meeting was held on all days throughout the year. All the other important celebrations like Sri Rama Navami, Krishna Ashtami, Vinayaka Chaviti, Siva Ratri, Christmas Eve were conducted in the Samithi with Puja in the morning and special Bhajan in the evening. Kalpataru Day was celebrated on 1st January with Puja in the morning and lighting of incence sticks and meditation in the evening. All the important celebrations like Tithi Pujas of Bhagavan Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda were held with Puja in the morning and with arati and a discourse in the evening. This year we celebrated the 150th Birthday of Sri Sri Sarada Devi by lighting 150 candles in the evening. On Vinayaka Chaviti, Balavihar children made idols of Vinayaka with black soil and the idols were worshipped. In the evening 'Nimajjanam' was performed with sankirtan. On Deepavali day Lakshmi puja was conducted in the evening. An effigy of 'Narakasura' was prepared by the children and the same was burnt. Later sweets and crackers were distributed among children. On Ekadasi Days Ramanama Sankirtanam was done in the evenings. All the Birthdays of the 16 direct disciples were conducted with a discourse in the evening by Sri N. Ramagopal on the life and teachings of the disciple. Throughout the year on all Mondays Dr.B. Nagalingam, President of our Samithi conducted discourses on various topics connected with the lives and teachings of Sri Ramakrishna and other direct disciples. On Thursdays Geeta Classes were conducted by Sri N. Ramagopal and Lectures on Kathamrita were conducted by Sri A. Natarajan, Secretary of our Samithi.
NARAYANA SEVA (POOR FEEDING) During the year Narayana Seva was condcuted twice. During the month of December, 2003 Narayana Seva was conducted coinciding with 150th birth anniversary of Holy Mother. During February, 2004 Narayana Seva was conducted coinciding with birth anniversary Sri Sri Guru Maharaj.
YOUTH ACTIVITIES Study circle was held regularly from 7.30 P.M. to 8.15 P.M. every day. It is receiving good response from the high school and college students. Teachings of Swami Vivekananda are the main thrust along with learning English through reading newspaper. Annual Competitions were conducted for students of School and college under the name Vivekananda Cultural Awards Programme. During this year competitions were conducted for school and college students separately. On 09.11.2003 a Seminar was conducted by Srimat Swami Supriyanandaji Maharaj on the topic 'Will Power'. The seminar concluded with the prize distribution function for the college students. Competitions for the school children were conducted during the month of January, 2004. The response was overwhelming. On 26th January, 2004 the prize distribution was conducted. Rev. Bhavaniprana Mataji, Sarada Math & Mission, Guntur participated in the said programme. Competitions were held in events like elocution, essay writing, singing devotional songs etc. and the response during the year was good.
PUBLICATION OF BOOKS All the books published by Samithi continued to receive good response from the spiritual aspirants throughout the year. During the year three new books were published by the Samithi. (1) Pushpanjali (2) Samasyalu (3) Sangham. PUSHPANJALI: This book is a compilation of moral, spiritual topics. It was the brain-child of late Sri B.S.R. Anjaneyulu garu, the founder of our Samithi. Pushpanjali was originally pubished in 1984 and was sold at a subsidized price of Rs.4/-. Keeping the spirit alive, a revised and enlarged edition of the said book was brought out this year at a subsidized price of Rs.15/-. The said book is being offered to the children of Bapatla at a special subsidized price of Rs.10/-. This book is used as a source book for the Vivekananda Cultural Awards Programme school level competitions. SAMASYALU: This booklet was written in English by Rev. Swami Aksharatmanandaji Maharaj, President, Ramakrishna Math & Mission, Rajahmundry. Rev. Swami Aksharatmanandaji Maharaj kindly permitted our Samithi to publish the translation of the same in Telugu. The book is being very well received by the Telugu readers. SANGHAM: This booklet was a compilation of quotations of Swami Vivekananda on Organization and Organized work. It was originally published in the year 1984. Telugu translation of the said book was published during this year. This publication was well received by the readers.
CHILDREN'S ACTIVITIES Children activity 'BALAVIHAR' continued as a very important activities of the Samithi. About 30-50 children from the nearby locality attend Samithi regularly and are involved in all kinds of activities. During the year 'Academic assistance' was given to the children by teaching them. Every evening moral classes were conducted for the children in which they are taught moral stories from Indian culture, life and teachings of Swami Vivekananda and Bhagavad Geeta. Every evening the children are provided with supplementary food in the form of prasadam. During the year new dresses were stitched and distributed for 20 children with the financial assistance of the donors and Samithi.
